Removing Stains

How to Remove Grease Stains

Stop yelling at your child if he stained your carpet with that yummy chocolate-flavored ice cream. It is not the toughest stain that you have to deal with as a cleaner. Instead, scold your husband for bringing home the grease stain from the garage after working on with the car. Well, you also have to scold yourself somehow if you have oil stains on your dress or apron that you got from cooking.

Oil or grease stains are the toughest and the hardest stains to beat. Sometimes, these stains are even impossible to get rid of especially if not treated immediately.

But just like any other existing stains that may ruin your sofa, carpet, or garments, you also have the chance to get rid of the grease stains. It would not really require you to call for a professional stain remover or use expensive stain removing products commercially available in the market. Below are some of the agents that would help you get rid of the grease stains easily.

A mixture of water and soap may do the trick. Just like in an ordinary laundry, use your regular laundry detergent to wash away the grease stains from the washable materials. What you must do is to simply rub the stained spot thoroughly so that the grease stains will be removed. The effective detergents for the grease stains are those that have kerosene or naphtha.

You may also use various substances or materials that are effective in absorbing the grease out of your garment or furniture. This includes brown paper, fuller’s earth as well as the blotting paper. Other efficient absorbing materials also include white talcum powder and even French chalk. However, when using these absorbents, make sure that you only put it in grease stains that are free from debris. Some people prefer to use the said absorbents when taking off grease stains from fabrics because it would not wet the clothes, the carpet, or the sofa. Aside from that, it would also not leave a ring or a mark around the stain unlike other grease solvents.

If you want to use the absorbent papers when taking off the grease stain from your garment, all you have to do is to place the papers at the front and at the back part of the stain. Apply warm iron on the stained area, but make sure that you would not keep the iron in one place for a long time to avoid the paper and the garment from being burned. This would eventually melt the grease from your polo or shirt and it would be absorbed by the paper.

On the other hand, if you will be using absorbent powders simply put ample amount of powder at the grease stain. Using your hands work the powder around the stain carefully. By the time that the spot becomes gummy, try to brush it off. Just repeat the process again and again until the chunk of grease has been taken out off the spot.

However, there are also those who use organic solvents to take away the grease stain. Some of these organic solvents include naphtha, chloroform, ether as well as gasoline. Out of al these mentioned organic solvents it is the chloroform that is considered as the safest organic solvent because it is not flammable.
