Removing Stains

How to Remove Ink Stains

People live a busy and a hectic life nowadays. That is why sometimes they need something that would help them remind, something that would let them keep note of things such as pens. And because pen is essential part of almost everybody’s lives, it is often seen at the shirt’s pockets or any pocket in one’s clothing where it can be easily accessed. However, there are unfortunate times that the pen’s ink will explode while placed in your clothes. This would result into a grueling battle between the ink stain, the fabric, and you.

You have several options so that you can still wear your favorite shirt or pants without showing the stain where your pen’s ink exploded. You may cut off the part or mend a small piece of cloth over it. But why do that when you can actually get rid of the stain itself? However, before doing so, you must determine the type of ink or pen that ruined your fabric. This would let you know easily what type of solution you must use in order to easily take the stain away from the cloth and make it wearable again.

If you are just using a water-based ink, you are lucky. The water-based ink stains are considered to be the weakest among the ink stains. And since it is water based, it would only take you at least a few minutes to get rid of the stain on the fabric.

What you must first do is to lay your shirt (or any fabric with the water-based ink stain) on the top of a clean and dry towel (preferably white). Simply put some water to the spot as you blot the stain using another clean towel.

Afterwards, place a small amount of your laundry detergent to the stained area and leave it for three to five minutes.

Rinse the garment in the warmest water temperature that it can tolerate. Before you put it on the dryer or leave it to dry, make sure that the shirt is already free of ink stain. If not, you may start doing the whole procedure again.

But what if the stain was not from a water-based ink? A permanent ink is one of the toughest stains known to moms (aside from chocolates). Thankfully, there are still ways that would help you get rid of the permanent ink stain.

First option is to use alcohol. Just put the stained fabric on top of a clean white towel. However, it is advisable that you test a small amount of alcohol first at a hidden part of the fabric to see any adverse effects. If there are no changes happening to the color of the fabric, then you may start blotting the alcohol in the ink stain. Eventually, the towel below may get wet from the alcohol and some of the discolored ink may be absorbed as well. If this happens, make sure that you move the fabric to avoid ruining the rest of it. Keep on blotting the alcohol in the ink stain until no stain remains on the cloth.

But there are some people who claim that the alcohol does not work with the permanent ink stains. Another option is to use nail polish remover instead. Just do the same procedure mentioned above and replace the alcohol with a nail polish remover.
